The Portent (Pocket Edition)

Price range: $13.95 through $22.95

The Portent is an early novella* by George MacDonald, which is partly described by its subtitle: A Story of the Inner Vision of the Highlanders, Commonly Called The Second Sight. Centring around young Duncan Campbell, who finds himself in possession of this gift (though in slightly altered form), it tells of his connection to an old legend, the ghostly experiences he has as a tutor at Hilton Hall, and the progress of his love affair with one of its residents-the beautiful but enigmatic Lady Alice.

First published in 1864, The Room to Roam now offers this new pocket-sized edition (approx. 6″ x 4.5″), with a cover inspired by The Portent and Other Stories, published for George MacDonald’s Centenary. The reader should note that this pocket edition contains only The Portent itself, not the other stories (which can all be found individually in our various George MacDonald ‘Collection’ books.)

N.B. Please note: the hardcover edition is only printed in and shipped from the United Kingdom; please allow 3-5 weeks for international shipping. The paperback is printed in the UK and US and is therefore unaffected.

*One of two Scottish novellas (the other being Far Above Rubies), neither of which contain any broad Scots dialogue
