George MacDonald, one of the giants of nineteenth century literature, was not only a prolific novelist, but a true poet at heart. His verses, written for both children and adults, show a playfulness and poignancy that is seldom so successfully combined, and the same spiritual richness found in the best of his prose. This new collection draws from MacDonald’s greater and lesser-known works to display all these qualities to the full; and a bonus selection of (translated) Scots verse has also been provided, for it is by no means in English alone that his poetic greatness shines through.
